Sidney Kirschner

Northside Hospital

A resident of Atlanta for more than 25 years, Sidney Kirschner has been affiliated with Northside Hospital for more than a decade. He served on the hospital's board of directors since 1984 and was elected chairman of the board in 2001. Kirschner was named president and CEO in 1992.

Before joining the hospital, Kirschner was the chairman, president, and CEO of National Service Industries (NSI), a Fortune 500 company.

Kirschner was born in Ottawa, Canada in 1934 and was raised in New York. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering from the New Mexico School of Mines in 1956. After graduating, Kirschner joined Aerojet-General Corporation as an engineer. He rose through the management ranks in jobs at Aerospace Corporation, Curtiss-Wright Corporation and General Dynamics Corporation from 1960 to 1973. He left General Dynamics as president of the Electric Motor Division to join NSI.

Since becoming president and CEO of Northside Hospital, Kirschner has championed a dedication to service excellence; raised the level of commitment to community service; and helped to expand the hospital's service area with a number of new service delivery sites. In addition, he was instrumental in helping the hospital "birth" a $34 million Women's Center which opened in May 1999. The center has received regional and national recognition.

In addition to his commitment to Northside Hospital, Kirschner has served on the board of directors for the American Red Cross, VHA of Georgia, Georgia 1st, Principle Healthcare of Georgia, Atlanta Chapter American Cancer Society, Atlanta Jewish Federation, Sandy Springs Revitalization, Inc., United Way, and Georgia State University School of Policy Studies. He is a long-time member of the board of directors of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce, SE Region and chairs AICC's Medical Committee which organized the acclaimed Southeast-Israel Medical Technology Business Exchange in 2002.

Kirschner is a father of three and has five grandchildren. He and his wife Carole reside in Sandy Springs.
